In 2008, DNR added a new site at Gunpowder Falls State Park Hammerman Area. Students have exhausted all of the possible planting areas at Rocky Point, but the plants there continue to thrive. The grasses have extended into the golf course coves and is producing seed pods throughout each consecutive year’s planting area. Annual aerial surveys taken by the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) continue to map grass beds planted there by students in the bay grass program. These sites will continue to be monitored as well as other sites from previous years throughout the summer. If the grasses continue to do well, we will continue to expand the planting areas in the future. We appreciate all of your hard work this season growing your bay grasses, and hope to see you next year. |
