The Maryland Department of Planning (MDP) and the Task Force on the Future for Growth and Development in Maryland invite you to participate in a survey informing their work on recommendations and strategies for sustainable growth in the State. The 1000 Friends of Maryland, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Environment Maryland, MD League of Conservation Voters, and MD Watershed Network invite you and other community leaders to a lively discussion on Maryland's growth policies and how they can be improved. These forums are intended to build on the State's (MDP's) recent listening sessions and to provide an opportunity to talk about specific ways to move forward. We anticipate that during the 2009 General Assembly Session there will be significant growth legislation to improve Smart Growth policies, the local comprehensive planning process, and the state planning process. Conservation and environmental groups from across the state are beginning to develop a legislative package and request and welcome your input. Please join us to discuss ideas and strategies on how to improve growth management in Maryland, conserve our natural resources, reduce air and water pollution, and create better places to live and work. Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative -- rggi.org -- Maryland participated in first CO2 Emissions Auction The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is the first mandatory, market-based effort in the United States to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Ten Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states will cap and then reduce CO2 emissions from the power sector 10% by 2018. | |
