  • Had a great time, but no bear. Lots of scat and tree scratches.
  • It was a very interesting experience and I hope to be selected again next year!
  • Great job by Harry and his team. Would like to see more opportunity for all hunters to participate, ie- archers only season, hold hunt latter in fall.
  • This was once again a great experience for me in all aspects. The program was well run, and it was a pleasure to chat with Paul, Harry, Karina, Patty and Barbara at the check station. Great job! I love bear hunting in Maryland.
  • Excellent job all around. Would participate any time, Thanks!
  • This was a well run hunt. I scouted the area well and had written permission to hunt 2 different farms, but chose state property because that is where the bears I saw were crossing and eating berries. I installed my tree stand Sunday evening and started hunting first light Monday. Someone started cutting and felling trees on top of the ridge where I was and not one bear came by - understandable. I'm 65, have some health problems, but had a wonderful time just the same.
  • The orientation session was excellent. Did not see any bears but saw scat. Saw lots of deer and lots of turkey. They'll hide during their season and then I'll see bear. Bear hunting regulations are very clear. Almost identical to deer regulations.
  • Seen 5 bear scouting on Sunday before open day, Thanks for a great chance to kill a bear close to home.
  • All aspects were very efficient and timely. Kim Knox especially helpful at Frostburg meeting.
  • There exists an excellent bear program in MD, and I hope to have a chance to draw another permit in the future. It was a great experience from beginning to end. The reason for not shooting at bear I saw was because it was before shooting time when it was under my tree stand.
  • The entire hunt, from the application process to this survey, seems to have been conducted with the utmost professionalism. The wildlife division of the MDDNR should be commended for their efforts. I live in and hunt in the bear-hunting area. I have a lot of respect for bears and enjoy seeing them. I also feel that it is important to manage them because their population seems to be growing rapidly. I feel confident that I could harvest at least one out of every two or three days that I hunt. At times I feel that my bow hunting time is more often bear watching time because there are so many of them. Thanks for the opportunity to hunt bears in MD again. After two years in a row of getting lucky, I imagine I will have to be a sub-permittee next year.
  • It was both an honor and a privilege to participate in my second bear hunt. Even though I didn't harvest a bear, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Being able to take my dad made it even more special.
  • Had a great time. You DNR people are doing a great job.
  • Even though we didn't get a bear, it was a great fun hunt. Harry Spiker and his team did a great job administering the hunt. They were also very helpful during the pre-season scouting. I did see one bear but was unable to shoot for safety reasons. We will defiantly re-apply for next year's hunt.
  • The personnel at the checking station where we turned in the GPS were friendly and helpful. Need to work on shorten of the line when getting your permit or GPS. Could have the meeting around lunch (noon) to allow more time in the field for the people traveling a distance. Overall a well run hunt and good job by DNR staff!
  • The MD bear hunting season is a must. Should go on to keep the bears healthy and going strong. The prehunt meetings are good for hunters so they can learn about previous hunts and were bear hunting stands. DNR people was great at the prehunt and at the check stations, lots of help. Thank you, keep up the good work for the hunters.
  • A nice experience.
  • Thank You - look forward to future hunts.
  • Very well run hunt and a great hunting opportunity at a bargain price...this is a good management program - good for bear population control, hunter recreation and local populace affected by bears. Kudo's too, to DNR for a great deer management program!
  • Thank you for a fun hunt!
  • Great time, lots of walking, found bear sign but no bears can't wait to try again. Thanks.
  • Me and my son had a great time, we were close to a bear because we could smell it.
  • Very pleasant experience. I will be applying again next year.
  • I thank you for giving me the opportunity to harvest a bear it was the greatest hunting experience in my life.
  • I would like to do this again.
  • Thank you for the opportunity to hunt black bears in MD!
  • First I greatly appreciate the chance I had to hunt bear in MD - all aspects of the registration process and all other parts of the hunt were great. One thing that I found different from PA was the check station - in PA the stations are open to all during the hunting season, not only to check in bear kills but to check maps and location of day to day results - Overall I will definitely continue to buy a MD hunting license and register for the bear permit every year. Hopefully to draw another permit. I am looking forward to next year with great anticipation. Thank You Again!
  • Move season away from Black powder a little more, this could have impacted sightings. Raise the amount of bears, locals really have a problem with them. I had a great time and met some good people. That’s what it is all about. Thanks.
  • I really enjoyed myself looking forward to it next year if selected. Also the staff at DNR and check point was great!
  • I was really excited to be drawn to hunt bears in MD this year. My brother drew a permit the first year and I was the subpermittee, but we couldn't hunt that year. So this year I was able to hunt 3 days. Your registration process and prehunt meetings are getting better each year. Keep up the great work. I did see a nice size bear on the Thursday before the season, so that kept me excited the following week.
  • Very exciting, my father saw a 300+ lb bear the 1st day but didn't have a effective kill shot so he let it go. Although we didn't harvest a bear, I've had a great time and will apply again next year. Thanks for a great hunt.
